5 lakh trees and counting — restoring ecosystems and nurturing forests across Tamil Nadu.
Since 2015, Geo India Foundation has been at the forefront of large-scale afforestation across Tamil Nadu. Our tree plantation program is not just about planting saplings — it is a comprehensive ecological restoration initiative that encompasses site selection, community mobilisation, long-term maintenance, and biodiversity monitoring.
We have successfully planted over 5 lakh trees across 50+ locations, covering rural forest patches, urban streetscapes, school campuses, railway stations, and riverbanks. Each plantation drive is supported by trained volunteers and local communities who take ownership of the green spaces they help create.
A landmark project was our urban greening initiative at Taramani Railway Station, where 5,000 trees were planted along the station walls and surrounding areas — transforming a grey infrastructure zone into a thriving green corridor that benefits thousands of daily commuters.
Every tree we plant follows a five-stage process designed to maximise survival rates and long-term ecological impact.
Surveying degraded lands, urban heat zones, and rural forest patches to identify optimal plantation locations.
Procuring native and climate-appropriate species from government nurseries and certified local growers.
Organising plantation events with local communities, schools, and corporate volunteers for mass participation.
Watering schedules, tree guards, fertilisation, and community-led care programmes to ensure survival.
Annual audits measuring canopy cover, biodiversity indicators, groundwater levels, and carbon sequestration.
Urban plantation zones have recorded an average local temperature reduction of 2–3°C, significantly improving the comfort and health of surrounding communities.
Dense plantation in watershed areas has contributed to improved groundwater recharge, benefiting surrounding farmers and rural households dependent on borewells.
Native species planting has encouraged the return of birds, butterflies, and small mammals to restored areas, rebuilding ecological corridors.
Our maturing tree cover sequesters thousands of tonnes of CO₂ annually, contributing meaningfully to Tamil Nadu\'s climate action targets.
Fruit-bearing trees planted near tribal villages provide seasonal income and nutritional supplements for over 15,000 rural families.
Over 200 government schools have received dedicated plantation drives, creating shaded, cooler learning environments and teaching children ecological responsibility.
Every rupee you donate plants trees that will stand for generations. Every volunteer hour you give nurtures a sapling into a tree. Join Geo India Foundation in building a greener Tamil Nadu.
